‘We Will Miss Him Terribly’: The Actress Meg Ryan Shares Heartfelt Homage to Rob Reiner

Meg Ryan has posted a tribute to the departed filmmaker Rob Reiner, under whose direction she worked in the hit rom-com When Harry Met Sally.

A Devastating Incident

Reiner was found dead with his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, at their home in Los Angeles over the weekend.

“We will miss this man so deeply…” the actress posted on Instagram, alongside a picture of them together. “Our gratitude, Rob and Michele, for your faith in true love, stories, and joy. We appreciate your faith in human goodness and your deep patriotism.”

Charges Filed

Reiner’s son Nick, 32, is accused of two counts of first-degree murder and made a court appearance today. He’s being incarcerated with no bail set. Reports indicate that Reiner’s daughter Romy found her father’s body.

“I have to believe that their story will not end with this impossible tragedy, that some good may come, some awareness raised,” Ryan went on to write. “Perhaps they would desire a legacy of hope and humanity, leading us toward empathy and tranquility.”

Children Share Their Grief

Reiner’s surviving children Jake and Romy released a message today. “No words can convey the constant, profound sorrow we feel,” they said. “The horrific and devastating loss of our parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, is something that no one should ever experience. Beyond being our mom and dad, they were our dearest friends.”

Colleagues and Friends Remember

Ryan’s co-star, Billy Crystal, joined in remembering Reiner with a statement shared yesterday together with remarks by Larry David, Martin Short and Albert Brooks.

“His skill for comedy was unmatched, his ear for dialogue perfect, and his dramatic precision was sheer elegance,” the tribute noted. “For the actors, he loved them. For the writers he made them better. His greatest gift was freedom. If you had an idea, he listened, he brought you into the process. They always felt they were working as a team. To be in his hands as a film-maker was a privilege but that is only part of his legacy.”

A Lasting Cinematic Legacy

When Harry Met Sally was a hit with both critics and audiences in 1989, earning over $93 million globally and securing Nora Ephron an Oscar nomination for best original screenplay.

Rob Reiner met Michele Singer Reiner during the production of When Harry Met Sally. The pair were brought together by Barry Sonnenfeld, a director and friend.

Reiner’s notable filmography also included classics such as Misery, Stand by Me and The Princess Bride. The director and his wife were husband and wife for over three decades.
