Recently, Battlefield Studios launched a fresh playlist called Casual Breakthrough. To put it simply, this option resembles the regular Breakthrough format but features several notable adjustments:
In short, the playlist lives up to its name: it's a casual version of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think there's nothing wrong, as it gives more options for gamers seeking different methods to have fun with the game. However, if video games have taught us anything, it is that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, many Battlefield 6 players are mad.
"Gamers prefer human opponents. Avoid making the mistakes of your rivals," reads one reply to the official announcement. "Truly disappointing concept," comments a different user. At the same time, in community forums, one user remarks, "I have no idea where we are headed with this game," and another lists everything they believe to be problematic in the game: "Fix bugs, fix drone glitch, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."
On the other hand, amid the criticism, some gamers explaining how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's very fun to practice, human participants keep it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," says one Reddit comment. "This subreddit fails to see that there are gamers who actually go outside and can't play this game 24/7. Allow them to strike a balance," states a different comment. One reply on Twitter explains that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is great for me," and someone else applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Despite the support, players have constructive reasons to criticize Casual Breakthrough. Some users have highlighted that it will make wait times more extended for different playlists because of the sheer number of playlists currently available. Similarly, some areas often face mostly bots in the existing playlists. It also seems somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a required amount of real players, despite it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.
Lastly, one of the biggest grievances is that Battlefield Portal was promised to offer complete rewards, even against bots, but that got canned when they attempted to remove XP farming from the mode. Thus this new playlist seems like the community compromising in the middle, as per a Reddit comment. A different user labels this mode as the developers "making a mistake so hard, I had great enjoyment in the initial release, why did they feel the need to change it?"
Should Battlefield Studios has proven anything to date with Battlefield 6, it is that they're paying attention and responding to feedback. Tasks being too difficult were adjusted very quickly, as did the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, if their data shows this new playlist is underperforming to their expectations, they won't be shy to change it again.
