The Game UN:Me: An Psychological Horror That Blends Silent Hill with Among Us Mechanics

The recent Day of the Devs digital showcase unveiled a number of intriguing upcoming titles, but one in particular has captured the imagination: UN:Me. Created by Historia and Shueisha Games, this single-player experience seems to blend the oppressive atmosphere of a Silent Hill game with the paranoid deduction heart of Among Us.

"This is a distinctive game where a girl containing multiple human souls within her must escape from a maze of the psyche," explains producer Yasukazu Kawai.

Stepping Into a Shattered Consciousness

In UN:Me, players assume the role of an unnamed heroine seeming to be of high school age. Inside her reside four distinct personas, each with their own anxieties and drives. These souls can take over at will, unleashing their innermost phobias upon her suddenly.

Based on revealed footage, much of the narrative unfolds within a creepy medical facility, while other scenes depict the main character exploring a abandoned chapel.

An Environment of Individual Horror

"What makes you fearful of? What makes you uncomfortable?" poses creative lead Shun Sasaki. "High places. Confined spaces. Authority figures. Elements that seem trivial to other people can trigger a deep instinct inside us. This game delves into that concept — fears that are unique to every individual."

The central gameplay loop involves controlling the persona that surfaces at a particular moment. However, these identities will change involuntarily as you play. While exploring, each soul's anxieties become amplified and assault the protagonist in succession. As the persona changes, so does the particular terror the player experiences.

Unsettling Aesthetics and a Deadly Choice

At first glance, UN:Me shares striking visual similarities with the Silent Hill series. The setting is filled with nurses who all share the same face, with unnervingly wide smiles. Figures in the lobby have large blooms growing from their heads should be. Floral motifs are an ever-present theme, contrasting natural beauty with unnatural horror.

Yet, UN:Me introduces a singular twist. Players must determine which of the four entities haunting the protagonist is the "true" one. "All four personas asserts that the physical form is rightfully them," explains a creator. "Throughout the game, you must determine who is authentic."

Once players believes a soul is an impostor, they are forced to destroy it. However, since every entity can deceive or hide the truth, it is very easy to make a mistake.

"Perhaps you've already eliminated the true [soul] with your own hands," the narration states. "The last one standing might be a fake. In any case, your choices are irreversible."

UN:Me currently lacks a confirmed launch window, but it is can be follow on platforms.
